| | FAQ's - General Questions |
| Q: | What is Web Hosting? |
| A: |
To help you understand web hosting, we have developed a simple analogy. But first, some definitions:
- Web Site - a group of files and programs that reside on a very robust computer connected to the Internet.
- Web Server - a computer that stores the files and programs that make up the site, and then allows visitors to access and read those files.
- Web Host - an interconnected group of web servers containing web site data, that other computers can access through the Internet. Web hosts also provide technical resources and web site maintenance.
Now, think of a web host as a landlord. A landlord builds and maintains the structure, then rents storefronts to various businesses that otherwise cannot afford their own buildings. Each business decorates and operates their store differently and leaves building maintenance to the landlord. Likewise, a web host rents space on a web server to various businesses. Each business builds its own web site while the web host maintains the network of web servers.

| Q: | What are the advantages of having a web host? |
| A: |
You don't have to invest tens of millions of dollars, or endure technical headaches, in order to build and maintain your hosting infrastructure. We monitor the network. We protect your data. You focus on your business.

|
| Q: | What should I consider when choosing a hosting package? |
| A: |
There are four basic items you should think about when selecting the right web hosting package:
- How large will your web site be? Estimate the number of pages your web site will have and their content. How many images, music files, video files or other content do you plan to add? The more pages and files, the more disk space you will require.
- How busy will your web site be? Estimate the number of customers who will visit your site on a busy day. The more people on your web site, the more data transfer you will require.
- How many email accounts will you need? You will probably want a separate email for each employee and a few addresses for things like sales@mydomain.com or info@mydomain.com.
- How important will your web site be to your business? Is it so critical that without a web site your business will fold, or is it more of a competitive advantage that increases your visibility in the market? The more people who use the site and the more it affects their decisions and actions, the more important a web site is to your business.

| Q: | How do I move my existing web site to 2Link Web Hosting? |
| A: |
First, you have to update your domain's DNS information to point the DNS servers to 2Link's DNS servers - dns1.2link.net and dns2.2link.net.
Next, make sure you have a copy of all your web site files, including images, sound and video clips and other files, on your personal computer. After you purchase a 2Link Web Hosting package, simply use an FTP program to transfer all your files to your new web site.

|
| Q: | Can I publish web pages with FrontPage? |
| A: |
Yes. 2Link Web Hosting includes support for Microsoft FrontPage. You can create author accounts and grant access to specific subdirectories, so colleagues or others can publish pages to your web site without logging in to your account or requiring your assistance. FrontPage adds convenience, speed, and security to web site creation and maintenance.

|
| Q: | How do I create a web site? |
| A: |
You need a web page authoring tool to create the HTML (HyperText Markup Language) documents and an image editing tool if you want to create your own graphics. You can use Microsoft FrontPage and Adobe Photoshop for these purposes respectively.
In addition to using these tools, you can sign up for 2Link's SiteBuilder and build it yourself without any HTML skills! See "What is 2Link SiteBuilder and how do I use it?".
Creating HTML file is like typing a Word document. Just point and click and start typing. A HTML authoring tool would let you create hyperlinks between pages and insert images.
Normally you would create the complete web site on your own computer, and then publish or FTP the files to the web hosting provider when you are ready. See "What is FTP and how do I use it?".

FAQ's - Domain Services |
| Q: | I just registered a domain name. How long until I can use it? |
| A: |
New domains and changes to domains may take up to 4-8 hours for .COM and .NET domains and about 24-48 hours for all other domain extensions to become effective. This is due to the number of networks involved, and the fact that those networks are controlled by several different agencies. This delay applies to all domains and all Registrars. Please allow for this delay when planning Web sites or configuring a domain to work with your email.

|
| Q: | What do I do with my domain once it's been registered? |
| A: | Now that the registration is complete, you have a few options on how to put your domain name to use.
Do you have a Web site already designed for your new domain name?
If your Web site is complete, follow these instructions to get your site on the Internet.
· Acquire a hosting account.
· Modify your domain name servers (DNS) to the addresses provided by your hosting provider.
· Upload your Web site to the Internet.
Did you register this domain name as an investment and wish to sell it?
Domain names can be a great investment. If you have registered a domain name that you are not using, maybe someone else can! Go to the Account Manager and set up a For Sale parked page for your domain name. Don't forget to include your contact information!
Did you register this domain name because it is similar to your other domain names?
The more domain names you register, the better. Prevent others from registering a similar domain name to yours - just to steal away your customers! What to do with all these names? Forward them to your main domain name!
Do you want to wait to use your domain name?
Maybe you haven't decided what to do with your new domain name. Don't worry - there's no rush. You can leave it parked with 2Link for the length of your registration.

| Q: | What should I do so that my web site can be listed in the search engines? |
| A: | Search Engine submission is by far the most affordable way of advertising your site to the thousands of people searching the web for your products or services right now. Your web site needs to have visitors in order for you to successfully sell your product, offer a service or pass on information.
2Link will manually submit your site to the top search engines and general directories. You will be provided with a full report detailing the submissions and the expected date of index. This usually takes between 5 days to 8 weeks. Your web site address will be submitted into some of the most popular search engines and directories on the web. Included are Excite, Lycos, AltaVista, Infoseek, Google, WhatUSeek, AOL, MSN, Galaxy, NBCi, Lybot, etc.
Please note that submitted URLs are subject to editorial review by some of the search engines and directories. There is no guarantee that your web address will be listed in the index. We highly suggest that you also advertise and promote your web site through other mediums to increase your site's visibility.

| Q: | How do I transfer a domain to 2Link? |
| A: | Thank you for your interest in transferring your domain name registration to 2Link. With our new Domain Transfer System transfers are now often completed in 5 days or less, but please be aware that transfers may take up 7 days to complete. In order to complete the transfer to 2Link, we will need some assistance from you.
Here is an overview of the process:
- Advise your administrative contact that the domain name is being transferred.
- 2Link will email your administrative contact by the next business day to request transfer approval.
- When this acceptance is received, we will send a transfer request to the registry.
- The registry will email your current registrar.
- Most likely, your current registrar will send your administrative contact an email asking for your approval of the transfer to 2Link. Please respond as directed.
- Your current registrar will send an acceptance or rejection notice to the registry.
- The registry will email 2Link a notice of the acceptance or rejection.
- 2Link will send you an email informing you that the transfer is complete. Should the transfer fail, we will inform you.
Helpful hints:
- ICANN regulations prohibit transferring a domain name that has been registered or previously transferred within the last 60 days.
- Verify that the domain name's administrative contact email address at your current registrar is correct. This is the address we are required to contact to request approval for the transfer.
- After we have notified you that the transfer is complete, log in to your account and verify the contact information for your domain. Inaccurate or incomplete contact data may result in the cancellation of your domain name.
- If the domain name is locked the transfer will fail. Contact your current Registrar in order to unlock your domain name.

|
| Q: | How long do domain name registrar transfers take? |
| A: | With our new Transfer System transfers are now often completed in 5 days or less. However, there are two steps you can take now to reduce the time required:
- Verify that the domain name's administrative contact email address at your current registrar is correct. This is the address we are required to contact to request approval for the transfer.
- Advise the administrative contact that the domain name is being transferred and to expect our request for approval.

| Q: | What is the Redemption Period? |
| A: | The redemption period is a Registry level period of up to 30 days that occurs when a domain name is deleted after it expires without being renewed. Instead of just being deleted and returned to the pool of domain names available for registration, the registry holds the name in a REDEMPTION PERIOD. During this 30-day period, the original domain registrant may retrieve the domain name from deletion (usually for an additional fee) by contacting their Registrar.
This extra 30-day period extends the time available to renew expired domain names. However, all names that enter the redemption period are removed from the zone files (the list of domains currently in the global DNS); therefore, any Web site or email services associated with the domain name will stop working.
After the 30-day redemption period there is a 5-day pending delete phase. When a domain is in this phase no one can retrieve the domain and it cannot be registered. After the 5-day pending delete phase the Registry will release the domain name back into the public pool of available domain names.
We strongly recommend that you renew your domain registration before the domain name is placed in redemption. If your domain name is placed into redemption, we cannot prevent the zone files being removed from the DNS and your Web site and any associated services will cease to work.
IMPORTANT NOTE There is an additional fee, separate from the renewal fee, for retrieving a domain name from redemption.

|
| Q: | How can I retrieve my domain if it is in Redemption? How can I renew my domain registration if my domain name is in the redemption period? |
| A: | We can assist in retrieving your domain only if your domain was registered with 2Link. If your domain was registered with another registrar, you must contact that registrar for information regarding retrieving your domain name.
IMPORTANT NOTE: You will be charged a REDEMPTION FEE in addition to the charge for the domain registration renewal.
Please contact Customer Support to begin the retrieval process. Hurry, before time runs out and your domain name is lost!

Establish an Internet connection, and then open Internet Explorer.
- In the Internet Explorer Address Bar, type your FTP Site URL. Start by typing "ftp://", followed by your domain name (for example, ftp://www.yourdomain.com).

Using WS_FTP File Transfer Protocol Utility
WS_FTP offers a full range of file transfer features that let you transfer files directly to your FTP directory. To download WS_FTP Utility go to www.wsftp.com.
- Establish an Internet connection, and then open WS_FTP and click Connect.
- In the Session Properties dialog box, click New.

- Click OK.
- In the WS_FTP window, navigate to your Web site files in the Local System pane on the left side of the window.
- Double-click the file to transfer or select multiple files and click the transfer arrow located between the Local System and Remote Site panes.

| Q: | What is SSL? |
| A: |
SSL is the de facto standard for creating a secure, encrypted link between a Web server and a browser, thus securing safe passage of sensitive information, such as credit card numbers. E-commerce Web sites use SSL as a means to protect online transactions with their customers. Once a secure connection is established, SSL encrypts information sent from your browser to the Web server.

|
| Q: | What is a SSL Certificate? |
| A: |
A SSL Certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates the identity of a Web site to visiting browsers and encrypts information for the server via Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. Encryption is the process of scrambling data into an undecipherable format — ciphertext — that can only be returned to a readable format with the proper decryption key.
A certificate serves as an electronic "passport" that establishes an online entity’s credentials when doing business on the Web. When an Internet user attempts to send confidential information to a Web server, the user’s browser will access the server’s digital certificate and establish a secure connection.
A SSL Certificate contains the following information:
- The certificate holder's name
- The certificate’s serial number and expiration date
- A copy of the certificate holder’s public key
- The digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority

| Q: | What is FTP Service? |
| A: |
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It lets you connect to a remote computer, such as a hosting server in another state. Then you can move files from your machine to the remote one and create folders for those files on that computer. Depending on the hosting server, FTP may also allow you to alter the permissions for files on the remote machine, thereby controlling who can access or modify them. The best way to learn about File Transfer Protocol is to use it. You will find several free FTP clients at www.download.com.
After downloading one, use it to connect to your 2Link hosting account. Click here to get your hosting account today!
